Donation of Sanitary Towels  

Kakuzi participated in celebrating 2019 Menstrual Hygiene Day by donating sanitary towels as well as raising awareness on menstrual hygiene.

This is with the goal of enabling women and girls to achieve their full potential. Kakuzi donated sanitary towels to 4 secondary schools (Gaichanjiru, Gititu, St Michael and Makuyu Girls).

The event also gave us the opportunity to share with the girls ways to overcome the taboos associated with menstruation.

Construction of Rain Water Harvesting System 

Kakuzi has completed the construction of a 10,000L rain water harvesting system at Mianyani primary school and Mwania Mbogo primary school in Ithanga. The project will benefit over 450 pupils in the schools that are in a water stressed area. This project is aimed at providing much needed relief in search of water and therefore positively impacting learning outcomes in the schools.

Infrastructural Support to Primary Schools

Kakuzi donated furniture to five primary schools (Kitito, Mugumo, Ndera, Gathungururu and Kitito). This effort will contribute towards providing an enabling learning environment for the leaners. Kakuzi continues to work with education stakeholders towards attainment of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 that calls for quality education for all.

Gititu Secondary School  

Kakuzi donated furniture and five computers to Gititu secondary school. This effort will provide an opportunity for the school to allow more leaners access ICT classes in the school’s computer laboratory. The lockers and chairs will mitigate the shortage of funiture currently experienced at the school.

Sanitation Systems for Schools   

Eight latrines were built for Thangira Umoja Secondary and Rubiru Primary schools to give access to sanitation facilities.

Kakuzi sponsored Don Bosco secondary students’ annual retreat an initiative that trains youths on responsible citizenship.

Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM)

Kakuzi through its Tabasamu Program is working to address the challenge of menstrual hygiene faced by women and school girls. The company donated over 3,600 sanitary towels to over 2,000 students and vulnerable girls in the community.
