Roads and Bridges     

The company is grading and murraming Sunset-Kahururko road to enable residents of Ithanga and its environs access public facilities (markets, health facilities etc.). Installation of cross drainage structures and culverts for Kahuruko – Sunset Road is ongoing. Kinyangi - Sunset road, shaping of the road, rock filling and compaction is also ongoing.

The company also installed flex bean at Makuyu bridge. This will facilitate safe crossing for both motorists and pedestrian using the bridge.

Jiko KISASA (Energy Saving Stoves)

Kakuzi PLC installed double energy saving jikos to 300 households in the community to replace the traditional three stone cookstoves to help create awareness and promote alternative methods of cooking (clean cooking) that are safe and economical.

The company in collaboration with German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), facilitated the training of 33 community members on energy saving jikos installation to aid in the program implementation.

Working with elected leaders

Kakuzi donated a total of 14 electricity poles to facilitate community connectivity to power. We hope that this will spur economic growth. 

The company also donated 130 fencing posts to Kahonoki police post. The new police post neighboring Kakuzi that will be beneficial to security operations around the neighboring community and the company.

Community Centre

An initiative of the company to set up a drop-in zone where members of a community can connect with Kakuzi. This is meant to cement the relationship between Kakuzi and the surrounding community

Working with Local administration

The company piped water to the senior government officers’ residential area. This has ensured constant access to water to 9 government households solving water shortages experienced.

Kakuzi donated 30 classroom furniture to Maranjau Prison, a correctional facility within Murang’a south to facilitate initiation of adult learning for the inmates which will positively impact the rehabilitation process for 300 inmates.

We also constructed saniation facilities at Kirimi Police Post.

Food stuff and other donations

Kakuzi donated 237kgs of beans to Gathungururu Secondary school to support the School’s lunch feeding program.

Kakuzi made food donations in 10 locations bordering the company to help meet the increased need for food.  Area chiefs and village elders were actively involved in identification, mobilization and distribution of the benefit to vulnerable, elderly and different abled individuals. A total of 4,230 kilograms of beans were donated benefiting 1,051 households.

The company donated 200 kgs of avocado and 900 Kgs of beans to TeamPankaj. This supports the School Feeding Programme which caters for 18000 children in 18 different schools based in informal settlements in Nairobi

As part of giving back to the community and remembering the needy during the festive season, the company through ACK Diocese of Murang’a South donated 445 kgs of maize flour to the vulnerable in the community and another 300 kgs of rice through the area chief to the elderly community members in Kakuku and Kirathani sublocations in Ithanga.
