Community Macadamia Project-Macadamia Open Day 2018

The project being spearheaded by the Macadamia division set up trail farms with lead farmers in 2017. The farms are showing signs of success with a 95% survival rate.  Macadamia managers continue to monitor and guide the lead farmers on macadamia development with the hope that this project is taken up by farmers as an alternative cash crop.

The theme of the initiative, “GROWING MACADAMIA TOGETHER” aims to build on efforts made since the inception of the project in 2017. A total of 147 farmers turned up for the second Macadamia day, this is a considerable turn out which the company will build upon.

A total of 362 seedlings were offered to the community at a subsidized price, the aim is to encourage a sense of ownership from community members. A total of four more trail farms will be added to the project on different sites, this will bring the number of trail farms to eight all under Kakuzi managers.
