Avocado smallholder program

Kakuzi through its model of local partnership, continues to make available quality Avocado seedlings to community members. A total of over 29,000 quality Hass avocado seedlings were sold to farmers in 2021. We continue to empower our communities with knowledge and skills on Avocado production. The company is also offering free maturity testing for smallholders with a view of addressing quality concerns and better farmers’ income.

Bee Keeping Initiative

Bee keeping project is one of the economic activities initiated by Kakuzi to help the community.

Kakuzi Hills Self Help Group

We donated a total of 20 bee hives complete with hive stands to the members of the group. The company has also partnered with the group to make additional 20 bee hives for them.

We donated 990 honey jars to facilitate the group to properly package the honey harvested from their apiaries for marketing.

Kangangu Upper Stima Beekeepers 

We donated 25 bee hives and 25 hive stands to Upper Stima bee keepers. This followed a training on bee keeping that had been facilitated by Kakuzi.

School’s Avocado Program

The company donated 160 Hass seedlings to 16 schools from Ithanga ward. This will be scaled up depending on the success of this initial program.

The company also donated 150 avocado seedlings to Thangira & Kahaini Primary Schools which support over 400 pupils, an initiative aimed at promoting sustained economic benefit through production and sale of quality avocados.

The donations were coupled up with planting demonstrations by our Horticulture team.

Avocado Nursery Operators Training

Kakuzi started working with local avocado seedling nursery operators through training and free scion provision to increase the quality of avocado produced in the county.
