Education Support

The company donated items towards Murang’a County Education and Career Expo 2017. This is an annual event organized by Murang’a County with the aim of addressing education challenges in the County.

A total of 2,438 students from 16 schools mostly form 3 and 4 got an opportunity to interact with colleges, universities and corporates who spoke on different career paths and emphasized on hard work and honesty. A total of 154 parents and invited guests attended the function.

School fees and bursaries

Two students in universities were supported with school fees in first quarter 2017, this ensured that bright but needy students accessed and remained in school.

Tree Planting in Primary Schools

Kakuzi PLC, partnered with neighbouring primary schools for a tree planting exercise. The company donated seedlings and participated in the planting exercise dubbed “adopt a tree” which saw each class and their teacher given a tree seedling to plant and take responsibility for post planting care. Kakuzi managers got an opportunity to inspire teachers and pupils to be ambassadors of environmental conservation.

Over 2000 pupils from four primary schools went outdoors to learn an important life lesson as they planted trees in their school grounds. Staff and pupils were encouraged to play a role in protecting the environment through personal involvement by developing tree planting culture and skills.

School fees and bursaries

One student in university is being supported by Kakuzi on tuition fees and hostel accommodation. One other student that Kakuzi has been supporting has already completed his studies and is waiting for graduation.  

Latrine Construction at Kitito Primary School

The objective of the project is improved concentration, learning and health among pupils attending Kitito primary school.  The project after completion is expected to promote the use of

latrines at the primary school as a solution to the current sanitation problem.

The school will also be assisted to realize hand washing facilities to promote hand hygiene. Currently, the pupils have no hand washing facilities. Over 2000 pupils in the school will benefit from this project once complete.

Perimeter Fencing at Ndera Primary School

With authorization from the county education office, local administration, and the community to fence the school; Kakuzi proceeded with the perimeter fence.

Plans to have county education officials visit the site to familiarize with Kakuzi’s engagement with school are underway

Hand Washing Facility at Kakuzi Primary School 

Due to lack of hand washing facilities in the school, Kakuzi partnered with the school to put in place a simple but effective hand washing system.

This is hoped to reduce the spread of illness so that pupils can stay healthy.

Sanitation Facility at Kitito Primary School 

With its completion, the project will improve concentration, learning and hygiene practices among pupils in the school.  The project has promoted proper hygiene practices at the primary school, a solution to the sanitation problem the school has been facing. The pupils (lower primary) benefited from sanitation and hygiene lesson facilitated by Kakuzi managers hoped to promote hand hygiene and reduce the spread of diseases. Over 2000 pupils in the school benefited from this project.

Sanitation Facility at Makuyu Boys Secondary school

Kakuzi partnered with the school administration to construct a sanitation facility. With its completion, the project will improve concentration; learning and hygiene practices among students in the school. This is hoped to reduce hygiene related diseases and thus promote learning.

Furniture for Kakuzi Primary School 

The classroom environment is a teaching resource that has a direct impact a pupil’s learning outcome and should not be ignored. About eight pupils share one table making learning a struggle for pupils.  This effort by Kakuzi is aimed to foster an environment and atmosphere that enhances learning in the primary school thus making learning effective.

Computers Donated to Schools

Working towards narrowing the digital and knowledge gap, Kakuzi donated 7 computers to neighbouring schools. This is expected to support the education sector, where our future generation are eager to learn and put to practice computer literacy skills.

The schools received the computers to help teachers in planning classroom sessions, preparing analysis of pupil’s performance and progress as well as support the teacher’s practice of computer skills following the introduction of computer lessons in Kenyan Primary Schools.

Gatitu Secondary School, received 4 computers from Kakuzi. The school could only accommodate seventeen students in its ICT class because of the limited number of computers available. Donation of the 4 computers increased the number of students taking up ICT class in the institution from 18 to 24. The County Director of Education, advised the students to take advantage of the opportunity to explore their full potential.
