Kakuzi Plc apologizes to all the stakeholders about the current circumstances in which we find ourselves. Our business operations are strongly interlinked with the community we operate and live in. Our business cannot exist without the community.
We are deeply disheartened about the horrible experiences reported by a section of our community.
We are committed to working closely with the community and relevant authorities to ensure these matters are investigated and addressed.
We recognize that although we have implemented policies and measures to address Human Rights issues in the past we still need to do more. We are currently reviewing a Human Rights Action Plan which will form part of our strategy going forward.
Kakuzi wishes to state that we are a responsible corporate citizen who continuously strives to live up to the values and commitments we espouse as an organization.
We wish to reiterate that we encourage all stakeholders to act respectfully and lawfully towards one another, and to emphasize that any reprisal against claimants/employees/community members is not acceptable.
Regarding the issue of suspended trading with a UK supermarket, we are specifically engaging with the Ethical Trading Initiative, with a view to addressing all the concerns. This is to be done through a mutually agreed process.
